Artisan: Iride De Portu
Background: Iride is the daughter of an Italian father and Greek mother. Known for her fine craftsmanship, and for combining the finest leathers to create artistic and interesting textured accessories. Iride studied Fashion Design at the prestigious Central Saint Martins (London) and the Istituto Marangoni (Milan). Upon returning to Athens, Iride completed her studies in handmade shoe design under the supervision of Apostolos Kouloumasis. In 2015, Iride launched her own label of leathergoods out of an alternative atelier in the urban neighborhood of Psyri in Athens.

1. How would you describe your customers?
A person who seeks attention in the details, who appreciates well made leather accessories, and who loves to be experimental with their style.
2. If you weren’t crafting leather goods, what would you be doing?
I love fashion, so I would be occupied with creating garments.
3. What is your proudest achievement.
When I hit a new milestone (due to high demand) to create a pret-a-porter collection.
4. Where do you travel in Greece?
All the Greek islands are beautiful. I prefer to visit Paros, which holds a special place in my heart.
5. What do you love about what you do?
I love that I am involved in every step of the process, especially when I can see my vision unfold as a finished creation.
